August 06 Vacation in Paradise......well to ME anyway. I spent 6 glorious days in Northwestern NY and Ontario Canada(read: Niagara Falls). The weather was phenominal(sp?). Highs in the high 70's and no humidity, that's right NONE! I walked outside the Atlanta airport on Sunday and whined, Can I go back to New York??? Hot, humid, sticky! Yuck!
What can I say about Niagara Falls. Awesome. I have to admit, I wasn't the least bit excited by the thought of visiting the falls. It's water over a cliff afterall. Well, I was awestruck. Absolutely. I didn't expect it to be s spectacular, especially once it got dark. If you ever get the chance to go, don't pass on the chance. We ate at the home of the original "Buffalo" wings, the Anchor Bar. The wings were good, but nothing special. We went to a great little town in Canada called Niagara-on-the-Lake. Small, quaint, a harbor full of sailboats and a main street that was full of great little shops. Homemade baked goods and candies, specialty shops and nice little eateries. Very nice, we had a great day there. We also ate(and drank) at a small micro-brewery in Buffalo, Pearl St Grill and Brewery. They brewed their own beer. We decided to brave a sampler, 6 5-oz beers of various styles. Well, you were supposed to get 6, we got 10. It was a slow night and the waitress was being nice. So we got to try all 9 "flavors" that they had, plus a Candadian draft beer called Alexander Keats. My favorite was called Trainwreck., a medium bodied beer that was great. They also had a blueberry blonde beer. Not as good as Sweetwaters Blueberry, but allright. A lighter colored beer called Lighthouse wan't too bad either.
Back to the grindstone, working overtime trying to make up for being gone! Planning a camping trip next weekend and a stopover from an old friend from Texas early next week. Also made our Thanksgiving reservations. Back to Nashville for us! We had such a great time, can't wait to go back!
I'll add photo's when I get a chance, the falls were truly magical!
I'll get around to see everyone eventually! July 17 Semi-bi-weekly updateOk, my promises to be more present have turned out to be empty. Well, at least we've been busy.
Our June camping trip turned out better than I expected. I took a 1/2 day off and we were at the campsite by 2pm. It's only about 20 minutes from us! The site, while pricey, was nice. It was big and level, with a nice deck that had a picnic table and a gas grill on each site! Very nice. We had the shadiest spot of the four families that went. Our progressive dinner did not progress. Since there were 11 of us, a picnic table would have had to have been "progressed" each time we did, and the men were not too happy about that! We did do Italian, but stayed at one site. I made an Antipasto Pasta Salad, and everyone loved it.
I'm going to brag on my babies a bit. They were so good. They didn't bark or growl at anyone. Mocha did a little when they were in the camper alone, but over all I was impressed with them. Bree barked a little during the storm we had on Saturday, but she ALWAYS barks at the thunder. Ok, speaking of the storm. It blew up really quickly about 4pm. It blew in so quick, alot of people didn't have time to get their awnings in. We talked to about 5 or 6 families who had awnings damaged or destroyed. One camper, Brand new off the lot, got 4 holes in the roof when a branch fell on it. They had just picked it up at noon and driven straight to the campground. They hadn't even gotten fully set up. What a shame. Our group was lucky. One camper did get some damage, but luckily it was to the skylight over the shower. If you have to have a leak, over the shower is the best place. Didn't stop us from having a good time. Saturday morning is usually breakfast cooked by the men, but one of our friends daughter had an event early on Saturday so breakfast was put off until Sunday(hard as two of us were trying to pack up!). Dinner was chicken grilled, and all kinds of sides and salads. A smorgasbord as usual and too much food, but fun anyway.
Off to mom's in Florida for the 4th. 4 days, 800 miles rnd trip, $200 in gas! Not bad. Very uneventful, for the most part. My favorite part was sitting outside in the evening. My mom's house is on a pond and canal. They feed the fish bread everynight, as well as a couple of fairly small alligators! The funniest thing happened on Friday night. We were sitting there just enjoying the evening. I kept my dogs on their leashes as they were on unfamiliar territory. One of the alligators swam up fairly close after a piece of bread. Mocha, who up until then hadn't been paying any attention, suddenly noticed the alligator. At the same time the alligator noticed Mocha. They just stared at each other for about 2 minutes. Neither moving. Finally Mocha figured it wasn't coming after her and she moved away. It was so cute, the dog on the edge of the pond, and the alligator, in the water, A good 6-8 feet away, just watching each other.
Now off to Buffalo in a few weeks. I'm going to glamour up this weekend. Haircut, mani/pedi, etc. I need it. Been working lots of overtime, which will help with the spending $$. Trying to not get too far behind. But boy is it hard. 5pm gets here and I want to bolt!
Ok, I'm going to try to get around to see everyone
Later! June 20 Catching up, or Miscellaneous Mumbo JumboI'll try to keep from rambling, but well...I've been lax lately and missing in action so to speak!
I managed two trips to our Shakespeare tavern this month. That will make up for missing next month! First trip was for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, a behind the scenes at Hamlet kinda thing. Kept me going, Huh? It was hard to follow, and well, I was as perplexed as the lead characters. Then, this past weekend, we were treated to "Much Ado About Nothing", featuring two of our favorite actors from this troup. Wonderful! They did a great job. Next up is "Midsummers Night Dream", a great play, but we've seen it at least 3 times in the last couple of years. So we are skipping it.
Getting ready to go camping next weekend. Just a short jaunt 30 minutes away. Barely out of the city. I sent an email to our buddies asking about menu suggestions and rec'd one back suggesting a "progressive" dinner on Friday night. If you are not familiar with this, it goes like this: Appetizer at one house, next course, next house, entree, different house, dessert and coffee last house, etc. Only we would go from campsite to campsite. Sounds like fun to me! Still working on the theme, but Italian has been suggested, as has a pasta course for me. I'm thinking of doing a cold pasta course, with another friend doing the hot course. I found a great pasta/chicken/fruit salad recipe and am trying to pair a good wine. I'll gladly take suggestions! LOL!
Hubby is getting everything else ready. I'm in charge of "decor and food" LOL. I'm looking for some cute citronella candles to use on the tables. I already have a nice table cloth we can use. All other activities to be planned later.
Gas prices be darned, we are going to Florida for the 4th. Down to see my mom for the weekend. It's been a whole year since we've seen her! Seems even longer. Told her I expected great fireworks!
We have a few other trips planned, but our Salem trip in the fall is off. Just not practical for us all to try and go together. I told hubby, maybe next year we can go ourselves.
This past Wednesday would have been my brother Jimmy's 40th birthday. It kinda snuck up on me, but I spent a good part of the day remembering him. He died suddenly 2 months before his 5th birthday. A short life to be sure, but important all the same. I decided my nephews definately got a bit of his charm.
By the same token, I'd like to mention the passing of Tim Russert. I always enjoyed his seeming impartiality when giving his insight on the political arena. I'll definately miss his wisdom in the next few months as this election heats up. God Bless Tim!
I'm going to have to get serious with my stepmom about my dad. I called on Fathers Day and he sounded really disoriented to me. I think he may have the beginnings of Alzheimers. It may have just been me, but all the more reason for me to get over there this weekend. I split Father's Day and his birthday next weekend. We will run over on Saturday, take him to lunch, pass out cards and gifts and run back Saturday evening. We will probably leave the dogs at home this time.
A busy next few weeks to be sure, topped off by a trip to Buffalo with my BFF, BJ. Something we both need. I'm asking for one thing, a stop at the Anchor Bar, the home of the ORIGINAL Buffalo wing! LOL, that and a cold beer and I'll be happy!
Hope your plans for the summer are "heating" up, maybe not literally, but none the less, have a great summer. Hope to stop back more often.
*Why does it seem whenever I try to post a new blog, I get the message that the site is unavailable. Yet if I open the page up in another window, copy and paste, it posts right away????* June 01 Graduation frustrationsThe county I live in is in scholastic turmoil. The Board of Education is basically corrupt and the state has threatened to revoke accreditation in September if they don't get their act straight. First they hired a new superintendant who basically asked for the moon in order to be hired. All kinds of ridiculous demands like a driver on call 24-7! Now the utter ridiculousness. The new superintendant refused to pass out the diplomas to the graduating seniors for every high school in the county because they had the old supers and BOE president's names and not his! Cost of re-printing the diplomas(to the county, I might add) $80,000! Thank goodness for the goodness of the printing company who has stepped up and offered to print the new diplomas for free. However, it will be several weeks before the graduates can have that special piece of paper in their hands. Of all the egotistical moves! The new super says it's not about him, but the fact that "HE" is afraid the diplomas will not be valid. Who even pays attention to who's name is on it except the graduates name?
Oh, well, it will come out alright, but goodness!
Ok, off my soapbox. Off the the Tavern tonight so I have to run!

Thanks Frana, this one was really hard. I'm not really good at looking at myself in this kind of way, so thanks again. May 17 FinallyWe finally got the camper back from the dealer. It took hubby getting downright angry and threatening to go to the manufacturer to get it fixed. Now, get this. We put an electric jack on the front of our trailer. Makes it easier to get on and off the hitch, and it's something Hubby always wanted. When the service guy was hooking the trailer up to Hubby's truck, he raised the jack too far and broke it! Since they broke it, they had to replace it. The one that was comparable to ours was also not in working condition, so they ended up giving us a heavier jack. They also gave Hubby heavier stabilizier bars and a new sway bar. Oh, and they also had to replace the hitch because they broke the ball off of ours! So, while they replace our nice beige sink with a white one that doesn't quite go, I'm not going to complain as we have a brand new setup up front, which will make towing a whole lot easier. Now if we could only go camping!
We waited too late to get reservations for the long weekend, so we are having a BBQ on Sunday along with some Nascar. Should be fun!
Took the girls to the groomer this morning, came to work(well, technically), and am getting my own grooming before I pick them up this afternoon. We all need it! Trying to find time to fit a mani/pedi in before next weekend also. Not sure that's going to happen, we have a lot of backyard stuff to do. Cleaning, mowing, etc. The inside will be a breeze, but well, the outside has been neglected, sad to say. We have a really nice deck, with an awning, table and chairs, benches and a fire pit. I was hoping to win the Lotto last night so we could replace everything!!! LOL! No such luck. Oh, well, at least here in Ga, a losing lotto ticket can be taken off your taxes! Go figure!
Well, since I'm here I guess I should do some work!
Have a good weekend! May 09 Making up your own mindSeveral months ago there was a huge controversy over the release of the movie "The Golden Compass". How all these people were going to boycott the movie and protest over the hidden agenda supposedly encased in the plot. I thought I'd make my own mind up. We watched it last night. I could definately see what the naysayers were saying, if you looked at it a certain way, you might see what they thought they saw, but if you took it for what it was a movie and didn't look for that hidden agenda, it was a fairly decent movie. Not nearly as good as "Chronicles of Narnia", another movie with a supposed hidden agenda. I will read movie reviews, but tend to not pay much attention. Usually I don't agree with the person reviewing the movie. I watch a movie for the entertainment of it, not to get a lesson, so I try not to read too much into them. Lots of people saw "I Am Legend". I didn't as I was told it was pretty scary, and that's not my preferred movie genre. Hubby watched it though, and he didn't like it. Takes all kinds I guess.
This weekend "Speed Racer" opens. Now, if your of a certain age like me, you remember the animated Speed Racer. I had a small crush on Speed Racer, second only to Donny Osmond in my mind.(I know, big L across my forehead! LOL!) I have no desire to see this movie, regardless of how much new technology is involved. I hate that they are making remakes of classic movies and cartoons. Superhero's like "Spiderman" and "Batman" work in a live action movie, but "Underdog"? Speed Racer is something not to be messed with, again, that's my opinion. Hubby's friend can't wait. Again, takes all kinds. I mentioned we watched "27 Dresses". When Hubby mentioned it to his friend, the friend said,"But that's a chick flick". I said to Hubby, "Did you like it" and he said it was ok. OK, so it wasn't guns and smash-ups, it was a good way to spend a few hours, and it was funny!
My favorite genre is Romantic Comedy. Love a good love story and a good chance to laugh as well. Can't beat it. Second choice is action, like "Indiana Jones" or "National Treasure".
Well, no camper yet. Still in the shop. Good thing we canceled our reservations for this weekend. And too late to get reservations for Memorial Day. So I think we are going to have a cookout on Sunday and invite the gang around to watch the Coke 600 Nascar Race.
Ok, have a great day everyone! May 07 You ever have....One of those days? Well, it feels like one of those weeks. It started Friday when I had to take J back to the airport. I hate saying good bye! Well, hopefully it will be soon. Got to talk to her today as a matter of fact.
Then over the weekend we were supposed to get together with the gang for dinner on Sunday and to check out a state park for camping. It's only about 30 miles away so it would be convenient. I had Hubby call someone to verify the time and I got in the shower. As I was getting out, he said take your time and I said why? Apparently one of the couples decided to go on Saturday and not let anyone else know. Turns out the restaurant was closed, and it did save everyone a trip, but that's really not the point. They could have called and said hey today would be better for us come on, lets go.
I have a suspicion that someone is tired of listening to Hubby rant about the truck and the camper. I understand, but hey call someone! I don't know, hubby is really tired of the run around. Me too, but what else can we do?
Then today, a co-worker jumped to a conclusion, that was false, and I bit back a bit to hard. Had to apologize, but geez, get the facts first!
I'm listening to the oldies station, well, classic rock. They just played "You Can't Always Get What You Want" from " The Big Chill". I love that movie. It's one that if I run across it I have to watch. No matter where it is in the movie. There are several that are like that for me. "Pretty Woman" and "Steel Magnolias"(You Know I love ya more'n my luggage"), and "When Harry Met Sally". I love knowing these kinds of things about other people. What is/are the movie(s) you just can't resist when it comes on? Or, you watch over and over, just because?
Along the same lines, I'll be one of the first in line for the new Indiana Jones movie! Loved one and three, and saw 2 but probably only once. Also the "Sex in the City" movie is the top of my list to see. Movies two weekends in a row! Yes!
Has anyone seen "Juno"? I want to, I just haven't found the time to rent it. Not sure if I want to invest in purchasing it. When J was here last week, we watched "27 Dresses". Very cute. I liked it.
ok, enough to think about, I have to get to bed!
Night all! May 01 WOW...That's what I have to say about the Bon Jovi concert last night! And OMG has he aged WELL! Lookin' fine! Lots of energy in a sold out house, 20,000+. They did all the classics, some covers, including an amazingly hilarious performance/imitation of Mick Jagger doing "Start Me Up". Daughtry was the opening act. If you a fan of American Idol, he was on the season that Taylor Hicks won. He was my fav and I was surprised to see him go as soon has he did. (side note: following in his footsteps, David Cook is my pick this year!). I was only familiar with a few of Daughtry's songs, but enjoyed it anyway, even if they were a little more hard rock to suit my taste. I did love it when Chris Daughtry came back out to join Bon Jovi on "Young Guns". I believe he may have performed this in American Idol. Fantastic!!!! One small drawback, I got just a little turned around trying to get there. I had only been to this arena once before and it was from the opposite directions. Directions didnt' help!
My buddy J is here for the concert and special girl time! She's actually joining me to work where I do now. Part time as she still lives in FL, but I'll enjoy the opportunity to talk to her more often. We are off to dinner with Hubby tonight and maybe a little shopping. Hope to be home in time for Survivor, but I'll make sure it's TIVO'd just in case!
Dory asked me what breed Bree is. She's a Maltese. My special baby, and spoiled rotten. I know I'm a bad mom and in Ceasar Milan's words " Discipline, Boundries and Affection" don't exist in my house, mostly just affection!!!
Anyway, we love her. She's very sweet(mostly) and really smart. DH taught her lots of tricks, even to "whisper".
Later all!
April 27 Pics added!I have to explain a few of the pictures. The Marine is my stepsister's son, Jeff. He just finished boot camp and will be off to somewhere in Missouri soon! The picture of my hubby in a dress is the one that needs an explanation. I blogged that one of Easter Weekends tradition was the old fashioned picture of the group. This year we talked the men into dressing like women and we dressed as the cowboys. We only had a few sticklers on the men's side, but when everyone else was doing it, they finally gave in. I knew if hubby's friends were in, I wouldn't have any trouble with him. It was fun and at least we can tell this years picture from the last two. You have to understand, we had a guy that is in the Navy, a Marine, a Police Lieutenant, an electrical engineer, and well, you get the picture. So much fun!
The camper pic is a long shot at the Dillard House where we ate Easter lunch. I'll get some inside shots, if we ever get it back from service!
The puppies need hair cuts, but had to add them anyway!
I don't know what the name of the river is, but it runs right through the campground!
Later! April 23 Here Goes!Well, let's see....
I'll start with the camper. It's at the shop, still, been there almost 3 weeks. We will be needing it in a few weeks, hope they get it done. Hubby is beside himself. He's not happy with the service dept. And I don't blame him. They should have ordered the parts, then called and said ok, bring it up. Instead, they said they had the parts, he took the camper there, and THEN they ordered the parts! Geesh, maybe they need some help organizing?
Ok, well, last week, I took a tumble. Took a package to the drop box at a local post office got out of my car, and tripped over one of those concrete bumpers in the parking lot. I never saw it, down I went. Banged my front tooth on the concrete and jammed my shoulder. Nothing broken thank goodness, just sore. Someone called 911 and when they got there, my blood pressure was really low. Shock I guess, but I decided to let them take me to the emergency room. I was fine when we got there, except for my shoulder. They took xrays just to make sure nothing was broken or dislocated. But it sure does still hurt and that was a week ago. No worry's it's getting better, but slowly. The good thing is, when I fell, I must have done something to my knee. I haven't limped at all! Go figure! I do want to thank the two ladies who stayed with me the entire time. I didn't know them, but they were so helpful. One turned my car off, got my purse and phone so I could give everyone the info needed. She kinda held my hand and comforted me. The other gave me a bottle of water out of her car. It warms my heart to know there are still kind people in this world. They could very well have gone on there merry way. I'm grateful they didn't. They wrote their names down in case I needed anything from them. I sent a couple of thank you cards, but somehow thank you doesn't seem quite enough.
This weekend we are going to Alabama to help my dad haul some junk to the dump. They don't have a utility trailer so we are going to help. Hopefully it will be a good trip. We are staying with my sis-in-laws mom. We can't pull two trailers, and no place to stay at Dad's, so our friend is putting us up. We certainly appreciate it, but would definately rather have our camper!
Next week my friend is coming from Florida and we are going to the Bon Jovi concert. It will be my first rock concert. Been to lots of country concerts, but never rock. I'm excited. I like Bon Jovi well enough to know I'll enjoy myself. And to just spend time with my friend, well, priceless!
I'm going to try to get here more often. And I'm going to get those pictures posted, if we ever get the camper back!
testingjust a test April 14 Too Busy!Sorry I haven't been by lately, but boy have we been busy. At work, at home, at play, well, you get the picture! I do have some Easter pics to add, but since I'm at work, I'll get to that later. We've been fine, just busy.
Easter was fun as usual, and way too short. I need another whole week, just to veg out! Work has been super busy. Lots of things up in the air. Won't bore you with that stuff.
We found a leak in the new camper as well as some other warranty issues, so she sits at the service dept as we speak. We are having them do a couple of upgrades as well and are just waiting. They do things on their own timeline. Doesn't matter if we want to go camping to them!
We have a trip scheduled Mother's Day weekend, so hopefully it will be finished by then.
I haven't had a chance to stop by and see everyone yet, but hope to on the next day or so.
I've started my annual round of MD visits. Isn't that special???? LOL, good thing I have some time!
All right, I'll add more later!
And don't worry, I'm fine, just busy! March 17 Update....againSeems like life is getting in the way lately, and I can't seem to get around to visit as much as I would like. Hope everyone is doing ok!
We survived the weather over the weekend, after a few scares sent us scurrying to the storm shelter a few times. The mess Friday night downtown was terrible. I finally had to stop watching the video shots. The are asking people to stay away from downtown tomorrow unless they are working. What's funny about Friday is we didn't have anything until about 2 hours after what went through downtown. We spent about 45 minutes in the storm shelter waiting out a pretty bad storm.
Until a trip to Lubbock Texas several years ago, I had never actually witnessed Hail. Not sure why, at least I didn't remember any before. I've seen it 3 times this weekend. We had quarter size hail yesterday afternoon. I opened the door to watch and hubby was trying to call on the phone and I couldn't even hear it!
I went down to the camper today to decorate for the weekend. I'm really excited. Can't wait! There is a chance we might not go, as our friends mom is very sick, but she's stable for now and our friend says as long as she's stable, there's really nothing she can do, so they are still planning on going! If we have to cancel, Hubby says we are camping in the back yard! We still have a few things to get supply wise, but otherwise we are ready to go!
There are three traditions attached to this weekend. The first is a group "old fashioned" photo. You know the kind where you dress in period costumes and the prints come out all sepia toned. Not sure if that will actually work this year because I think we have more people and last year we just barely made it. Hubby can't find our pic from last year. He took it out of the old camper and now it's apparently missing! It's around somewhere!
The second tradition is dinner at The Dillard House. It's a family style restaurant, famous around our area. Food is great and you always eat too much! Afterwards they have an egg hunt for the kids. That is hilarious. Watching all the kids run around trying to find the eggs!
The third tradition is after the egg hunt. The restaurant has a field where they have horses. There is an old wooden rail fence. It has been a tradition to take family portraits in front of the fence. We always enjoy that. We don't take a lot of pictures together.
That seems to be a problem with me. I go places with family or friends and then I forget to take pictures. In early February we went to my dad's to visit with some family. It's been around 8 years since I had seen them. Did I take any pictures?? Heck no! I need to work on that!
I'm going to add a few pictures to my albums from Chattanooga, and I will hopefully add more after this next weekend!
I'm going to try to get around to visit everyone soon.
Enjoy the pictures!
March 04 The Good, The Bad, and The....umm, well you know the rest!First the good:
You may know that I'm of a certain age!(45 to be exact) Which means I am a child of the 70's. Last night I had the opportunity to relive my childhood. I was searching through the channels for something to watch and stumbled across The Osmonds 50th Anniversary Concert on PBS! Now you have to understand that I was a huge Donny Osmond Fan. Still am to a certain extent. So, for 2 hours last night I sat on the couch with a huge grin on my face as I listened to song after song from my Tweens and early Teens! What memories it brought back.
Now the bad:
Since I live close to a big city, there have been two country stations to listen to, both owned by the same company. They have recently been sold to another big radio company. On Friday, the 29th, 12 of the 15 on air DJ's were fired with no notice. They left 2 from one station and one from the other. This has become a chronic problem in our city it seems, regardless of the music format!
I'm anxiously waiting to see what happens. There is a third station, but I hate to continuously swap stations, especially in the office where I have a dial and the reception isn't great. So I like to just stay on one station. Like I said I'm waiting to see what happens. Rumor has that the lone DJ at the one station will be going over to the other to join the morning show, And her previous station is going oldies. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing. No oldies in this city for about 5 years. Again, we'll see.
Now for the Ugly:
The weather! I'm not complaining as we still need the rain, but it is nasty! Raining hard and severe weather expected this afternoon. I hate having to get out in this mess, and I will need to go to the grocery store this afternoon! I'll have to get out my waders I guess.
Have a great day everyone! March 03 ok, here goes...We took the camper for a shake down, a real shake down! Up to Chattanooga for the weekend. Us and another couple. Weather was great, trailer handled great, other than the problem we are having with the truck. Everything shows we should have no prob pulling this trailer, but when we hit 15-20 mph there is a vibration in the drive train somewhere. Turns out there was a recall, but the "fix" did't fix the problem. Hubby has an appt tomorrow morning with a high muckety muck from Ford. We are hoping they can get the problem resolved. Hubby of course has the worst happening. And of course gets ticked at me when I try to tell him, just wait!
Next scheduled trip is Cherokee for Easter. Can't wait. Already have the Easter baskets ready to be put together for the kids. Even though I have none of my own I enjoy doing it for the others!
Can't wait for the Dillard House again! Yummy!
We have found a small lump/mass on Bree's left shoulder. Vet thinks its a lipoma(harmless) but can't be
sure unless they take it out. I've been monitoring it for about two weeks and it isn't getting any bigger yet, so I'm waiting a bit. I have to find a new vet anyway. Not happy with where we are going at the moment.
We are going to interview a dogsitter in the next few weeks. We are taking a trip in October and can't take the dogs with us. I'm less inclined to board them as neither have ever been boarded. A friend of ours recommended them. We'll see.
As usual, no pics of the camper yet, but it's parked in the driveway so hubby can take it with tomorrow to have the truck looked at. Maybe I can get him to do it tonight and I can get some uploaded later.
Hope everyone has been ok, and I'll get around to see everyone later! February 07 The new camperI'll get some pics posted as soon as I have some! We've been so busy we forgot to take them. Maybe I'll get hubby to take few tonight. I'll get him to take our "camping shirts" down to the camper and take a few shots of them as well. February 06 Yes, I'm still alive!I have been really busy so I'll update everyone!
We had so much fun at the Camping show! Yes, we found exactly what we wanted. However, it didn't quite fit the budget and was at the top of our weight limit. It had a huge bathroom, and lots of storage. So, since it didn't fit, we went for something that did. It's smaller, with lots less storage, but we can make it work, and we have already. I got "new camper-itis" and bought some new towels, rugs and some things to make storage a little easier. We took it to Dad's for the shakedown and it did just fine. Very comfy and pulled just great. We are planning one more trip before Easter, to Chattanooga for a weekend. Rest of the group will probably join us! So much fun.
We had a great visit with my aunts and uncle who came from Ohio. It was nice to see them and catch up. Wish I had asked more about what's going on with the cousins, but well, only so much time!
We are getting some much needed rain today. Hopefully the nasty stuff will be burnt out by the time it gets to us. It was really bad this time. A friend said one of her son's teamates sister and niece were missing. Not sure what happened yet.
I'll be around to visit everyone soon, so look for me! January 22 Yes, I'm still here......Just busy! My mom finally went home after a week. No permanent damage from the stroke, just some trouble stabilizing her blood pressure. We have had two snowy days in the last week. One on Wednesday and one on Saturday. What makes people act like idiots when the roads are slick and/or wet? I was going down the back road to my house on Wed. after work and it had started to sleet. The road is not heavily traveled, and is curvy, hilly and narrow. As I went down one hill, some idiot in a plumbing van was sliding all over the road, on purpose. He would speed up then step on the brakes and slide sideways, all while traffic was coming at him from the other direction! Some people! Anyway, then there's Hubby. We are looking for a new(to us anyway) camper. Hubby had seen some campers, new, for a great price. So he wanted to go 40 miles to the dealer on Saturday. I got up early to watch the news, and of course rain, turning to sleet, turning to snow was predicted. It was already raining at my house, and the worst was predicted to be south of the city, where we live. I tried to talk hubby out of going to the dealer, but noooooo, he just said if it gets bad we can head for home. Ok, we get the 40 miles away and nothing, not even rain at that point. We start looking at campers and see several we really like, but they are at the top of our budget and length range. Seems like that's all they wanted to show us, so while we were in and out of campers, it started to rain, then sleet, then snow. Now the snow was great, and some of the biggest snow flakes I've ever seen. We finally headed home, and stayed there! The dogs didn't seem too impressed with the snow, but I will say it got them in faster!
So, we are going to the camper show this weekend, and hope to find something we like in our range. Our whole gang is going with us, I want someone elses opinion on what works in campers....I just know what I like.
It's raining again today. If this keeps up, our water situation will definately get some help!
Well, I'm off to see what everyone else has been up to!
January 11 A rough weekIt started on Tuesday. I rec'd a call from my mom's boyfriends daughter in law.(he couldn't find my number). Seems my mom was in the hospital. So I called the BF and he explained that she had been dizzy when she got up, but blew it off and finally agreed to go around mid-afternoon. Her blood pressure was high and they were doing tests to find out why. At that point she was stable and still in the ER. I told BF to let me know if there was any change, and to call when she got in a room. No call that night, so Wed morning I called the hospital and got the room number. I spoke to her and she sounded ok, but had just woke up. They had scheduled an MRI for later. I called again in the afternoon and she had just returned from the MRI. That's when I found out she hadn't told me everything. Seems there was some tingling on her entire right side along with the dizzyness. Now I've been working in the medical field long enough to pretty much figure what had happened. Not that I'm a doctor by any means, but you definately pick things up. Sure enough when I spoke with her again that evening she had had a minor stroke. No visible damage on the outside or on the MRI. Just enough to prove the dx. That was Wed evening and the Neurologist verified it yesterday. She will probably go home today, with a medication change. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Her grandmother had 8-10 small strokes before she passed away. All with none to minor damage. She should be going home today.
We made the decision to stay here and not drive down to FL. We may make the trip in Feb/Mar. It's a 7 hour drive one way, and with nothing to do but twiddle thumbs in the hospital, no reason really. I did give her a lecture on the phone, and let her know I wasn't happy with her decision to wait all day before going. Well, I thought it was my sciatica acting up, was her response. I said Sciatica does not affect the upper part of your body, no response. It seems I'm going to have to make sure someone knows that she's as stubborn as I am(I get it from both sides apparently!).
Anyway, that and the termite infestation in the camper is throwing us for a loop. So we are looking at campers again. We will probably buy near new this time. The RV show is coming up in two weeks and it is literally around the corner from our house, so I'm talking hubby into going. Should be good for my knee, up and down in campers all day, but I need to know what I want besides a step in shower and a slideout!
Ok, so now that I can take a deep breath, the healthy eating part is starting up. I made chicken quesadillas for dinner last night. Whole grain tortillas(nasty, but healthy), white meat chicken, spices, some black beans and some salsa. The salsa came out of a jar this time, but I am going to try making my own. A good friend gave me a recipe to try.
I've decided that the "super foods" diet might be something I'd like to try. I already eat Oatmeal every day. I'm going to throw some blueberries in and get some extra oompf. We have already switched to whole grain bread, and as far as veggies are concerned, I like the dark green ones best anyway! Spinach, broccoli, and brussel sprouts I love. The fish thing(salmon) will throw me, as I really don't like fish, but I'm going to try to put it in my diet at least once a week.
Adding lots of water, and my treadmill, and I'm on my way. The organization part is going to take a little longer!!
Hope everyone else is good. And don't worry about me, mom is going to be fine.
